چکیده

This paper presents an object-oriented model to handle the temporal relationship for all of the multimedia objects at the presentation platform. Synchronization of the composite media objects is achieved by ensuring that all objects presented in the upcoming “manageable” period must be ready for execution. To this end, the nature of overlays is first investigated for various types of objects. Critical overlaps which are crucial in synchronization are also defined. The objective of synchronization is to ensure that the media objects can be initiated precisely at the critical point of the corresponding critical overlap. The concept of manageable presentation interval is introduced and the irreducible media group is defined. The resource scheduling of each presentation group for media object pre-fetch time versus buffer occupancy is also examined. Accordingly, a new model called group cascade object composition Petri-net (GCOCPN) is proposed and an algorithm to implement this temporal synchronization scheme is presented. key words: multimedia synchronization, temporal relations, buffer occupancy, media group, resource scheduling

A Synchronization Model for Presentation of Multimedia Objects

To support the presentation requirements of distributed multimedia information, synchronization of multimedia objects must be achieved. To this end, system resource scheduling and resource reservation for object pre-fetch, network bandwidth and buffer occupancy must be determined prior to the time the presentation is initiated. This paper proposes an object-oriented model to handle the temporal...

Synchronization Relation Tree : A Model for Temporal Synchronization in Multimedia Presentations

Schemes for specifying synchronization relations between multimedia data have important ramiications from user level speciication to system level schedule generation. This paper examines the problems of synchronizing multimedia objects in a multime-dia presentation. We present a scheme to handle the general problem of temporal relationship speciication and scheduling. The scheme proposes a two ...

A novel mathematical model for a hybrid flow shop scheduling problem under buffer and resource limitations-A case study

Scheduling problems play a big role in manufacturing and planning the production for increasing the production efficiency and assigning the resources to operations. Furthermore, in many manufacturing systems there is a physical space between stages that called intermediate buffers. In this study, a model is proposed for minimizing the makespan of a hybrid flow shop scheduling problem with inter...

Synchronization Architecture and Protocols for a Multimedia News Service Applications

In this paper, we present a complete software control architecture for synchronizing multiple data streams generated from distributed media-storing database servers without the use of a global clock. Traffic prediction and scheduling is performed by the independent sources for the remote presentation. Certain compensation mechanisms at the receiver are also necessary because of the random netwo...
